Associate Vice Provost Position Named for Women's Issues

Christine HaileyChristine Hailey, newly appointed associate vice provost for women's issues, is working to make Utah State University a campus that is not only women friendly, but people and family friendly.

"It's about being better for all people," said Hailey. "This isn't gender-specific. When it's better for everyone, it is better for women, too."

Hailey's quarter-time position was created in conjunction with a new National Science Foundation ADVANCE grant, a program designed to encourage new approaches to recruiting and retaining women in sciences and engineering. The ADVANCE grant is intended to improve the climate for women in academic institutions across the country, and to facilitate the advancement of women into positions of academic leadership.

Hailey will act as a liaison between many different teams supporting the new effort at Utah State, ADVANCE: Supportive Workplace Initiative.

Hailey is an associate dean in the College of Engineering and has worked for 20 years as an underrepresented minority in engineering.
