Cross Country Athlete of the Week Honors
Aggie junior honored for the second time
this season

Utah State cross country runner Mike Nielsen was named the
Big West Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the second time
this season, it was announced by the league office.
Nielsen, a junior from Bellevue, Wash., led Utah State at the
Pre-Nationals at Terre Haute, Ind. last weekend. Nielsen covered
the 8,000-meter course in 24:29 and finished 21st out of 235
runners in the "Blue Race." The Aggies finished ninth
in the team standings.
Earlier this season Nielsen earned the league's first Athlete
of the Week honor after he finished as the runner-up at the
Idaho State Invitational. In four events this year, Nielsen
has been USU's top finisher three times. In addition to his
second-place overall finish at Idaho State, he was sixth at
the UC Riverside Invitational, 15th at the Notre Dame Invitational
and 21st at the Pre Nationals this past week.
The Aggies, who are ranked seventh in the Mountain Region by
the United State Cross Country Association and 28th in the Mondo
Men's National Poll, will run at the Big West Conference Championships
at Riverside, Calif. on Nov. 2.
