SITE CONNECTS USU ALUMNI TO CAMPUS
Utah State University is connecting with students and alumni
through a new internal communication, news and promotional Web
site which can be accessed through e-mail. Utah State Today
officially took off Sept. 9. A technological step above its
predecessors, the Web site takes the place of a former publication
"Inside USU."... Utah State Today reduced printing
cost and is interactive, Smart said. The goals of Utah State
Today are to inform the community of USU news and events, to
recognize outstanding accomplishments of the faculty and staff,
to build a more diverse campus through communication and to
foster intellectual curiosity. ... To view the Web site, or

In the Monday edition of the Herald Journal, there was a story
on the green laser beam from Utah State University. There are
actually two different “green beams,” one at the
Space Dynamics Lab and one on the campus of USU. (Herald Journal,

USU FACES ACCUSATIONS
IT MONOPOLIZES BUSINESS: STUDENT ASSOCIATION SAYS UNIVERSITY
NOT FAIR TO PRIVATE ENTERPRISES
Because of its isolation, Utah State University is in an ideal
position to form monopolies, and it has, a student-led activist
group says. Last year, students at USU formed a group called
Stop Monopolies On Campus to combat what they perceived as obvious

EXPO DEC. 5 IN BRIGHAM CITY
The Box Elder County Technology Expo will take place Dec.
5 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the campus of Utah State University
Brigham City, 195 W. 1100 South. The free event will feature
how technology and the Internet can make a difference in personal
and professional lives. Activities include a vendor expo, Internet
seminars, and a hands-on Internet workshop. The expo is being
organized by Box Elder County Economic Development, the joint
Bear River Area and Brigham City Area chambers of commerce,

SNOW COLLEGE IS
WINNER IN SERVICE CHALLENGE
Snow College will receive a traveling trophy Friday, Dec. 6,
for its victory in the first Utah Intercollegiate Community
Service Challenge. Westminster College, which is sponsoring
the challenge for colleges and universities to compete in community
service, will present the trophy. Snow won first rights to the
trophy by registering 347 students — nearly 13 percent
of its enrollment — as organ and tissue donors through
the Quest for the Gift of Life Foundation ... Brigham Young
University and Utah State University tied for third. (Deseret
