BOWEN KIDS GET NATIONAL EXPOSURE: SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS BEING HAILED IN TV MESSAGE

It was almost like a regular afternoon at school for Bezait Andesse, a fourth grader at Edith Bowen Lab School. There were differences, though. Andesse said, “Everything took a long time, and we had to do stuff over and over again.” Andesse and her peers weren’t really in school Wednesday afternoon at all. They were actors in what will become a 30 second public service announcement to be broadcast in 25 major cities nationwide including Chicago, Atlanta and New York. (Herald Journal, 11/21/02)


UTAH’S ‘BEST’ EDUCATOR: USU PROFESSOR WINS PRESTIGIOUS CARNEGIE AWARD

The Dallas Cowboys, the Utah Jazz, country music, family, outer space, physics and students of all ages — these are but a few of Dr. Jan Sojka’s passions. The 2002 Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching “Utah Professor of the Year” calls himself a jack-of-all trades, master of none. But his impressive list of accomplishments refutes this theory. Sojka, a physics professor at Utah State University, is the faculty advisor for the NASA Get Away Special (GAS) project at Utah State and oversees the entire program. (Herald Journal, 11/21/02)
