MYSTERY
SEED MARKINGS MADE BY INSECT, USU SCIENTIST SAYS
Are the markings on banana squash seeds found last week by
Kazim Barakzia, owner of Salt Lake City's Baba Afghan Restaurant,
a mysterious message from a higher being? Or could they be the
work of hungry critter trying to survive the winter? Wade Bitner,
a horticulturist with Utah State University Extension Service,
said he believes a bug definitely made the unusual markings:
"It's not very common, but something got in there,"
said Bitner after seeing photographs of the seeds published
in The Salt Lake Tribune Friday. "It was likely a seed
beetle or some other sort of insect." (Salt Lake Tribune,

LOBBYING FOR KIDS: USU STUDENTS PUSH FOR FUNDS
FOR HEALTH CARE
“There are children 5 years of age and under that are
dying all over the world from things that are unheard of in
our nation,” said Quintin Beazer. This 22-year-old Sunset
native is one of approximately five Utah State University students
who recently visited Washington, D.C., to lobby lawmakers such
as Senator Bob Bennett and Senator Orrin Hatch. Members of the
Student Campaign for Child Survival chapter at USU joined a
nationwide effort March 7 through 10 to vie for a $100 million
increase in funding for maternal and child health care throughout
the world. (Herald Journal, 03/19/03)
PEACEFUL THOUGHTS PREVENT ROAD RAGE
We can blame the violent behavior some people exhibit with
an automobile on a lot of things, but if each of us monitored
our own behavior, the problem could certainly be reduced. Before
taking to the highways, consider the following suggestions.
