Utah State University Leads Big West With 28 Spring Academic All-Conference Selections

Mike NielsonFor the third straight year, Utah State has led the Big West Conference in spring academic all conference selections it was announced June 17. In all, 28 Aggies were named to the team.

To be eligible for the all-academic team, student-athletes must have a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average, be a sophomore academically and compete in at least 50 percent of their team's contests.

Utah State landed 28 student-athletes on the team, while Long Beach State was second with 27 and UC Santa Barbara and Idaho each placed 25 members on the team.

Among the selections for Utah State were three-time honorees Richelle Moon from women's tennis and Mike Nielson from men's track and field. Another 15 Aggie student-athletes were named for the second time in their Aggie careers.

For the year, Utah State has produced 58 total academic all-Big West selections with 25 in the fall and five in the winter. In addition to those 58 choices, Utah State had nine gymnasts earn academic all-Western Gymnastics Conference honors. The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and the Sun Belt Conference have not announced their recipients in indoor track and football respectively.
