Utah State Lands
32 on Academic MPSF Team
Aggies lead the league in
honorees, topping Stanford and others
Utah
State landed 32 track and field athletes on the academic all-Mountain
Pacific Sports Federation team it was announced recently. Utah
State's selections were the most in the league, edging out Stanford's
30 qualifiers.
Among USU's selections were NCAA Outdoor Championship qualifiers
Ryan Bruhn, Joel Johnson and Justin Wickard. Mitch Zundel, the
Big West individual cross country champion in the fall, was
also named to the team.
In all, Utah State had 16 men's selections and 16 women's honorees.
Stanford had a league high 17 men as well as 13 women. In addition
to Utah State's 32 overall selections and Stanford's 30, Arizona
was third with 16 honorees. Oregon had 15 selections, Washington
State, Cal State Northridge and Idaho 13 and Long Beach State
10. Four other schools had honorees as well.
To qualify for the team, student-athletes must own a 3.0 cumulative
grade point average, be a sophomore academically, completed
one year at the school, and compete in at least 50 percent of
the team's competitions.
This year, 106 USU student-athletes were named to academic
all-conference teams.
