The
Week in Aggie Athletics
Basketball,
gymnastics, softball, golf and men's tennis are all in action
this week

BASKETBALL
LAST WEEK
Feb. 20 - at Cal State Fullerton*, W 62-41
Feb. 22 - at UC Riverside*, L 65-72
THIS WEEK
March 1 - VS. IDAHO*, 7:05 p.m.
NEXT WEEK
March 5 - VS. CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE*, 6:35 p.m.
March 7 - VS. PACIFIC*, 7:05 p.m.
** Utah State (19-7, 10-5) needs just one more win on the season
to notch its fourth-straight 20-win season, which would set
a new school record. The only other time USU had three straight
20-win seasons was from 1962-64.
** Idaho is 11-13 on the season and currently in fifth place
in the Big West Conference with a 7-8 league record. The Vandals
are 4-8 on the road this season, which includes a 3-5 road record
in league play. They're averaging 63.3 points per game, ninth
in the league, and allowing 63.8, which is third in the league.
** Utah State will be looking to avoid back-to-back losses
for the second time this season as the Aggies dropped a pair
of road games at Jackson State (57-63) and at BYU (56-66) earlier
this year. Over the last four years, USU has had only four back-to-back
losses.
** Over the last four years, Utah State is 19-4 (.826) following
a loss, and 24-11 (.686) under head coach Stew Morrill. Thus
far this season, USU is 5-1 in games following a loss.
** Utah State is not in first place in the Big West Conference
for the fifth week this season and for just the 13th week in
the last four years.

GYMNASTICS
LAST WEEK
Feb. 21 - VS. BRIGHAM YOUNG, W 195.925-195.625
THIS WEEK
Feb. 28 - VS. OHIO STATE, 11 a.m.
NEXT WEEK
March 6 - at Brigham Young, 7 p.m.
** No. 22 Utah State's gymnastics meet against No. 14 Ohio State
is scheduled for 11 a.m. instead of 7 p.m. as previously announced.
** No. 14 Ohio State is 5-4 on the season. OSU's best score
on the season is 195.875, set against Michigan State on Jan.
25. The Buckeyes' average score this season is 194.744, while
their RQS stands at 195.490.
** USU's RQS of 194.730 moved the Aggies from No. 26 nationally
(by average last week) to No. 22. The RQS is determined by a
team's top six scores, three of which must be from away meets.
The high score is thrown out and the remaining five are averaged.
** Freshman Meagan Nelson is the first gymnast in Utah State
history to score more than 39.00 in the all-around in seven
consecutive meets. The school record for 39.00-plus all-around
scores in a season is nine, set by Christy Denson in 2000.
** Meagan Nelson and Nicole Kilpatrick are 19th and 21st, respectively,
in the national all-around rankings. Regionally, Nelson is fifth
and Kilpatrick is sixth.
** Never before has USU scored better than 195.00 four times
in its first seven meets. In both 1997 and 1999, the Aggies
reached the 195 mark twice in their first eight meets, but it
took at least 11 meets before they managed to post four. Last
year, USU had just two team scores of 195.00 or better.
