CHASING A FALLING STAR: AGGIE PROFESSOR TO STUDY
METEORS IN FRIGID ANTARCTICA
He’s not a contestant on the reality show, “Survivor,”
and he’s hardly playing a game. Yet 40-year-old Nibley
poet, author and Utah State University professor Christopher
Cokinos will soon venture into extreme terrain where it will
be a challenge to survive and thrive without any of the comforts
of home. Cokinos will spend six weeks living in tents with a
team of six or seven scientists in a remote part of Antarctica
during the 2003-2004 austral summer. Having no trees, buildings,
phones or people at his destination doesn’t bother Cokinos
too much. He’s looking for one thing — meteorites.
