FIRE
FORCES FINE ARTS CENTER EVACUATION: DISCARDED CIGARETTE BUTTS
MAY HAVE CAUSED THE BLAZE, FIRE MARSHALS SAY
Utah State University fire marshals believe discarded cigarette
butts may have caused a small fire that forced the evacuation
of the Daryl Chase Fine Arts Center at USU on Wednesday. Students
held their ears to drown out the continuous ringing of the fire
alarm as they exited the east and west doors of the building
Tuesday. (Herald Journal, 02/20/03)
ZIONS BOOSTS CUSTOMER
SERVICE: HIGH-TECH METHODS LET BANK KEEP TRACK OF USE, CUSTOMER
SATISFACTION
Zions Bank no longer has to wonder how its customers feel about
its service. A. Scott Anderson, the Salt Lake-based bank's president
and chief operating officer, said Wednesday that new technology
is helping provide important information in an industry where
only 4 percent of dissatisfied customers complain and the rest
simply take their business elsewhere. Customers visiting a branch
often will let the bank know how it's doing, "but once
they left the branch, once they went out onto the street, our
opportunity to interact with them and to know what they wanted
and how they were feeling about the bank disappeared,"
Anderson said during a Partners in Business customer service
and marketing seminar at Utah State University. (Deseret News,
