NOTEBOOK ARRAYS HOUSEHOLD FINANCES
When it was time for Adrie Roberts and her husband to refinance
their home last August, they turned to a financial notebook
Roberts had compiled that kept all their documents in one place.
Paycheck stubs for the past year, credit card information and
income tax forms were at their fingertips. … "The
mortgage broker said, 'I've never seen anybody so ready so fast,'
" said Roberts, a family and consumer sciences specialist
for the Utah State University Extension Service in Cache County.

AGGIES DROP THE BALL IN THEIR FAN RELATIONS
Periodically, sport fan will send in a letter to the editor
to chastise one and all for lack of support, making attendance
some from of civic duty. … I normally attend USU football
games and enjoy it, but I did miss the last two home games this
recently completed season. (Herald Journal, Soapbox, 12/4/03)

BIG SEQUOIA NOT
HARD TO FIND
The trunk is almost as thick as a mountain bike is long. The
tree itself is as tall as Ogden's city office building. The
species, giant sequoia, is native to California's coast and
isn't known for its adaptability to high-elevation, low-precipitation
climes like Utah's. … Now, it's an object of curiosity
to tree-lovers in the state. Mike Kuhns, Utah State University
extension forester, heard about the tree, found directions and,
as a break from a nearby convention, pedaled to the tree. (Standard
Examiner, 12/3/03) Click on: http://www.standard.net/standard/news/print_story.html?sid=00031202140014144675
UTAH'S JARDINE JUNIPER LARGEST TREE OF SPECIES
Very few Christmas trees are Utah's native evergreens. Permits
to cut your own, while still available in some of Idaho's national
forests, are scarce in Utah. … "It could last three
or four years," said Mike Kuhns, extension forester at
Utah State University, "or it could last 50 or 100."

RECORD WHITE
ASH TREE FOUND IN LOGAN
The tree, a white ash that is native to the Midwest, spreads
its crown into the middle of a downtown Logan street. Its trunk
takes up a large chunk of the grass between the sidewalk and
the street. It's probably been earning its height, girth and
crown spread for more than 80 years. ... For the latter measurement,
Mike Kuhns, extension forester with Utah State University, had
to look both ways, pull the measuring tape out into the median
of 100 East, look quickly (but carefully) at the measurement,
and dash to safety, reeling the tape as he went. (Standard Examiner,

of public relations and marketing at USU. (Herald Journal 12/3/03)
