ECLIPTIC’S
ROCKETCAM TO CAPTURE COMMEMORATIVE FLIGHT OF WRIGHT FLYER REPLICA
Ecliptic's RocketCam(TM) imaging system will provide onboard
video of the commemorative flight of Utah State University's
full-scale modern replica of the Wright brothers' historic aircraft,
the Wright Flyer. ... The USU Wright Flyer was constructed by
Logan-based Utah State University's College of Engineering (Mechanical
and Aerospace and Industrial Technology departments), the USU
Research Foundation and the Space Dynamics Laboratory as part
of the nationwide celebration of the 100th anniversary of powered
flight, which kicked off today in Washington, D.C. (PR Newswire,

AVIATION WORLD STILL BAFFLED BY WRIGHT BROTHERS
SUCCESS: BUILDING AND FLYING A CENTENNIAL REPLICA PROVES TRICKY
In 1903, Orville and Wilbur Wright built and flew the
first airplane and launched modern aviation, but nearly 100
years later, no one is sure how the two brothers did it. At
least four teams of craftsmen and scientists across the United
States are building replicas of that first wood-and-fabric airplane
to learn how the Wrights, two bicycle mechanics from Dayton,
Ohio, with no college education, succeeded when other inventors
of the day failed. ... Students at Utah State University are
taking a slightly different approach with their Wright replica.
They are using modern materials such as graphite and Kevlar
and will power the craft with a modern motorcycle engine. (Reuters,

FATAL ACCIDENT LEAVES BEHIND PAIN, UNCERTAINTY
Most days after school, Trevor Hunt's friends from the
eighth grade at Roosevelt Junior High would gather at his home
to hang out and play video games. But Tuesday was not like most
days. The 15 friends who went to the home next door, where Tyler
is now staying with friends, were there to express sympathy
and support for their lifelong friend who lost both of his parents
and two of his brothers in a car crash Monday night. ... A Utah
State University student on presidential scholarship, Bryson
was a few semesters from graduation. He was home for the Christmas
break when the accident happened. (Deseret News, 12/18/02) Click

ROOSEVELT FAMILY KILLED IN CRASH
A mixture of speed and snowy road conditions resulted
in the deaths of four members of a Roosevelt family Monday.
Bruce and Sandra Hunt and their two sons, Bryson, 21, and Tyler,
19, were traveling to Salt Lake City to spend the night before
Tyler Hunt left in the morning for Rio de Janeiro to begin his
mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
... Bryson Hunt just returned from his mission and was about
to return to school on a scholarship at Utah State University.

ROLLY & WELLS: PUBLIC RADIO BRACING FOR
A ZAP ATTACK
National Public Radio affiliates KUSU at Utah State University
in Logan and KUER at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City
combine to serve 50 small affiliates throughout Utah by use
of a translator signal. But under Federal Communications Commission
regulations, noncommercial stations can bump those with weaker
signals off the dial. According to a Sept. 15 story in The New
York Times, a mushrooming network of Christian radio stations
is deliberately targeting NPR stations because its leaders loathe
their "liberal" content. (Salt Lake Tribune, 12/18/02)
