Who Am I? I play the drums and French horn. I love to stargaze, start water fights and eat ice cream. In high school, I volunteered at the library and local elementary schools. Academically, I focused on science classes. I was involved in research and field work. Working in the outdoors makes me happy.

Why Utah State? Utah State has an excellent reputation, beautiful location, affordable tuition and outstanding programs. Everyone was so friendly when I came for a visit.

Academic Interests: Natural resources. "I want to research plants and animals so people can learn the importance of preserving them. Who knows, maybe I will discover something vitally important that will help many people. Maybe I won't, but whether my contribution is big or small, I know I can make a difference in the world, and I'm sure Utah State can help me on my way to that goal."

Utah State Launches New Enrollment Management Plan

Utah State University is getting a jump on the New Year when it hosts a launching party of its new recruitment plan and publications for 2004 on Sept. 5 at 2 p.m. in the Eccles Science Learning Auditorium.

Think logoThink Utah State is a new awareness campaign for the university and is the theme of a new brand of recruitment publications that will be officially unveiled during the event.

Following the unveiling is an open house of the new Admissions office in the Taggart Student Center from 3-5 p.m.

The new look and feel of recruitment publications reflect fresh changes in the way the university conducts the business of recruiting students, said Joyce Kinkead, vice provost of undergraduate studies and research.

The new director of Admissions, Jimmy Moore, with support from Kinkead, and other key players, will highlight the new Enrollment Management Plan during the unveiling.

"We are excited to launch our new Enrollment Management Plan which will focus on taking a much more proactive approach to recruitment," said Jenn Putnam, assistant director in the Admissions office at Utah State. "Our plan in the past has been a shotgun approach to recruiting, but now we have a much more structured strategy in place."

This structure comes from coordinated efforts among administration, the Admissions office, and the various colleges on campus. "We are excited to have Utah State administration and administration from the colleges on board who know how important recruitment is and who are willing to invest in this plan," said Moore, director of the Admissions office at Utah State. "It is vital for the campus community to know where students are coming from and how they will fit into the big picture once they arrive on campus."

"The purpose of the launch is to let the entire campus community know the direction the Admissions office is taking under the vision of our new director," Putnam said. "We want people on campus to know we welcome their input and want to coordinate all recruitment efforts across the board in order to create a unified approach."

The Enrollment Management Plan, along with the new recruitment pieces, aim to coordinate a campus-wide effort to more effectively recruit and enroll high quality students. "This plan is being implemented through the Admissions office, but we hope to foster synergies throughout campus and spur long-term quality growth at Utah State," said Scott Teichert, assistant director in the Admissions office at Utah State. "This plan defines who Utah State is as a university and falls in line with what President Hall wants to accomplish with recruitment and retention."

The 2004 Recruitment Plan and Publications Launch will begin with an introduction of the Enrollment Management Plan followed by the open house in the Taggart Student Center. The open house includes campus tours and a DVD presentation. Staff will also be on hand to answer any questions and to show guests around the newly restructured Admissions office.
