FIRE
DAMAGES UTAH WATER RESEARCH LAB
Fire crews from across the valley scrambled to help extinguish
a blaze that damaged the roof of the Utah Water Research Laboratory
Monday afternoon. Water tenders and ladder trucks from Logan,
North Logan, Smithfield, Hyrum and Utah State University responded
to the fire shortly before 4 p.m. Monday on Canyon Road. (Herald

TEAM OF USU MATH STUDENTS PLACES IN PRESTIGIOUS
CONTEST
A team of six Utah State University students placed 46th in
the prestigious Putnam math exam, considered the most difficult
in the world, according to a Time Magazine report. Harvard University
won first place. This year 476 schools with a total of 3,349
individuals competed, said Chris Coray, USU math instructor
and coach of the Putnam team. USU participants were Eric Widdison,
who placed 246th in the individual competition; Nate Jeppson;
Karen Perry; Brian Gleason; Robert Berry; and Serge Ballif.
All six finished in the top half of all the scores. The most
common score on the test, which offers 120 possible points,

USU FLYER TAKES FLIGHT FOR DISPLAY
After two years and more than 10,000 hours of hard work from
Utah State University engineering and aviation technology students
and faculty, the USU Wright Flyer takes off and travels throughout
Utah. The USU Wright Flyer, a 1905 futuristic replica of the
Wright brothers’ plane, will be on display through Wednesday
at the Salt Lake City Airport II. (Standard Examiner, 04/29/03)
