A team of six Utah State University students placed 46th in the prestigious Putnam math exam, considered the most difficult in the world, according to a Time Magazine report. Harvard University won first place. This year 476 schools with a total of 3,349 individuals competed, said Chris Coray, USU math instructor and coach of the Putnam team. USU participants were Eric Widdison, who placed 246th in the individual competition; Nate Jeppson; Karen Perry; Brian Gleason; Robert Berry; and Serge Ballif. All six finished in the top half of all the scores. The most common score on the test, which offers 120 possible points, is zero, Coray said.
