Aggies defeat the Tribal West men's lacrosse club out of Salt Lake 12-6
Tribal West made the trip through beautiful Sardine canyon on Saturday
to play against the Aggies on the HPER west field. The Ag’s opened up
the game’s scoring by putting two away early and kept the lead the whole
game. Tribal West only had four subs to the Aggies eight but managed to
keep the game interesting until the end with aggressive defensive play
and a more settled offense than usual. Utah State’s clears played a major
role in the teams scoring. Four of their twelve goals came off of fast
break situations and smart passes against the slides in the box lead to
open attackman on the crease more often than Tribal would’ve liked. Utah
State also created multiple turnovers in Tribal’s transition play leading
to quick offensive strikes from the middies.
USU’s bid to host the 2006 RMLC Playoffs is accepted by the RMLC at annual league meeting in Durango, CO.

USU Team posts an 18-4 victory over the Alumni Team
On a cool Saturday morning in Logan the 05-06 Aggies suited up for their
first game of the year. USU Alumni had come in from all over the Wasatch
Front to play against the new team, and they were in for a beating. The
game started off with multiple penalty-free de-cleatings as well as one
of the alumni getting his front tooth knocked out. The Aggie team dominated
the face-offs, had numerous successful clears and settled the ball for minute
upon minute to the chagrin of the out-of-shape alumni. "I couldn’t have asked
for a better first game for our guys" Assistant Coach Al Garner said, "We
executed what we have been practicing and the score reflects its success".
Both of USU’s freshman goalies shared time for the Aggies and the alumni so
they got to see a variety of shots from the old and new.
The 2005-2006 Utah State Men’s Lacrosse season is underway!
The first practice of the season was held today on the HPER
West field with a roster of 23 players (that’s 8 more than
what the team had at the end of the season in April).
The Ag’s return 8 players from the 2005 team and have added
freshman from California, Virginia, Ohio, Rhode Island, as
well as Utah. This year is special for the Aggies because all
the work they have put into the Cache Valley high school programs
and youth lacrosse over the years has come to fruition through the
additions of 5 Cache Valley local high school players to the squad.
Head Coach Matt Polityka said "the season has started off on the right foot
and the players are looking as though they will be healthy and ready
to go for a full year. These guys know we have to make amends after
last season's performance and we all look to find our niche among
the top teams in the nation". Assistant Coach Al Garner added
"this new crop of freshman will be carrying this team for the
next few years. We are happy with who we have out here this year
and are excited to see them in action this fall".
The Aggies hope to overcome their "rebuilding" year in 2005 by having a
strong showing in league play as well as in non-league and B division competition.
